Enroll in Safe at Home
Enrollment Process
Eligible people enroll in Safe at Home with the help of Safe at Home Application Assistants. An application assistant is an employee of a victim service agency who has been trained to assist with the Safe at Home application process. There are more than 400 Safe at Home Application Assistants located in various communities throughout Minnesota.
Visit a Safe at Home Application Assistant
Every adult interested in applying to Safe at Home must meet with a Safe at Home Application Assistant. In the meeting, the application assistant and the potential applicant will:
- Discuss current safety concerns; and
- Determine whether the potential applicant is eligible for Safe at Home; and
- Develop a personal safety plan for the potential applicant; and
- Explain how Safe at Home can be a part of that plan.
If together the application assistant and the potential applicant decide that Safe at Home could be an effective safety strategy for the potential applicant, the application assistant will refer the potential applicant to Safe at Home.

Show a Photo ID
If the potential applicant has photo ID, the Safe at Home Application Assistant will ask to dee it during the meeting, if possible.
Guardianship Documentation, if Applicable
If a guardian is applying on behalf of an eligible ward, copies of documentation demonstrating legal guardianship must be submitted along with the Safe at Home Application. If the legal ward is an incapacitated adult, the ward is not required to meet with the Safe at Home Application Assistant. The legal guardian must attend the meeting and can speak on behalf of the ward.
