Secure and Fair Elections


The Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State is committed to ensuring elections are free, fair, secure, and accurate. Minnesota's elections are administered locally by your neighbors, friends, and family. The Office of the Secretary of State provides guidance and support to local election officials in all 87 counties. 

Minnesota laws set the standards for state and local election officials to ensure the highest level of security and fairness in our elections. Our laws provide detailed processes around creating, distributing and storing ballots; purchasing, testing, and securing election equipment; recruiting and hiring election workers; registering voters; and more. There are many ways for Minnesotans to get involved in our elections, including by serving as an election worker. Every statewide election requires 30,000 Minnesotans to serve as election workers. These people are paid for their time and take an oath to follow the law, prevent fraud, and act in a fair and impartial manner.
