Secretary Simon Presents Award to FOX Sports North for 2016 Voter Education Efforts

October 26, 2017

FOX Sports North aired over 950 public service announcements aimed at educating Minnesotans about voting

SAINT PAUL — Today, Secretary of State Steve Simon presented a Medallion Award from the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS)—the highest honor that a secretary of state can make—to FOX Sports North for its extraordinary efforts in helping lead Minnesota back to number one in the nation in voter turnout in 2016.

Between Sept. 7, 2016 and Nov. 8, 2016, FOX Sports North aired over 950 public service announcements aimed at educating Minnesotans about voting in the 2016 election, such as how to register to vote, how to request an absentee ballot and a reminder to vote on Election Day.

“I am proud today to honor FOX Sports North for its strong commitment to educating Minnesotans about the voting process and the integral role it played in helping return Minnesota back to number one in voter turnout,” said Secretary Simon. “Not only did we return to number one, but Minnesota voters set numerous records, including the total number to vote in a general election, to cast a ballot early, and to register before Election Day. Minnesotans should be very proud.”

Secretary Simon presented the Medallion Award to Mike Dimond, FOX Sports North Senior Vice President and General Manager, during the Minnesota Wild vs. New York Islanders pre-game show this evening.

The PSAs featured stars from the Minnesota Wild, Vikings, Timberwolves, Lynx and Twins encouraging Minnesotans to “Get in the game!” and vote. They included both 15-second and 5-second spots.
