Safe at Home Reaches Milestone of 5,000 Active Participants
SAINT PAUL – On July 1, 2025, Minnesota’s address confidentiality services, Safe at Home, reached the milestone of 5,000 active participants for the first time since the service was created in 2007. Safe at Home is a division of the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State.
Through the service, Safe at Home staff provide a new address for participants, receive the participants’ mail, and forward their First-Class Mail to them. Staff also collaborate with third-party stakeholders, such as county offices, utility companies, banks, and schools, to provide education that helps them develop policy and procedures to better serve Safe at Home participants.
“Safe at Home is a critical service for every participant,” said Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon. “It protects the participants and their loved ones and allows them to retake their daily life, ridding them of the heavy burden that comes with constantly looking over their shoulders.”
Safe at Home is open to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and those who otherwise fear for their safety, including those who have professional concerns like law enforcement and judicial personnel. The most common reason for enrollment is domestic violence.
“Last week, we reached a milestone I did not think I would witness – reaching 5,000 active Safe at Home participants and the number continues to slowly rise,” said Dianna Umidon, Director of Safe at Home. “It is heartbreaking that so many individuals fear for their safety to such an extreme, but it is such a blessing that Safe at Home exists to help so many people.”
Every day people begin and end their journey with Safe at Home. Every year, the office has seen consistent annual net growth. To date, there have been more than 15,400 separate individual participants and applicants. Some have enrolled in Safe at Home numerous times due to different instances of victimization.
