Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon Testifies on Election Security before United States Senate Committee on Rules and Administration

June 20, 2018

Sec. Simon: “Minnesota is more prepared than ever before to confront the cyber threat to our elections system.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon testified today before the United States Senate Committee on Rules & Administration about election security preparations for the 2018 elections. Secretary Simon joined a bipartisan group of Secretaries of State and other elections officials to offer his view of the security landscape ahead of the 2018 elections.

“We are today faced with the very real likelihood that some outside force will again target the instruments of our democracy,” said Secretary Simon. “In Minnesota, the stakes are particularly high because we are the #1 state in voter turnout – with a total turnout of 74.7% of eligible voters casting ballots in 2016. With the 2018 election rapidly approaching, I am confident that Minnesota is more prepared than ever before to confront the threat to our elections system.”

Voting for Minnesota’s 2018 Primary election begins on June 29, 2018. Eligible voters can check their registration status and/or apply for a vote-from-home ballot by going to: www.mnvotes.org.
