Enrollment Process

Eligible people enroll in Safe at Home with the help of Safe at Home Application Assistants. An application assistant is an employee of a victim service agency who has been trained to assist with the Safe at Home application process. There are approximately 300 Safe at Home Application Assistants located in various communities throughout Minnesota.

Visit a Safe at Home Application Assistant
Every adult interested in applying to Safe at Home must visit a Safe at Home Application Assistant. In the meeting, the application assistant and the applicant will discuss current safety concerns. If both the applicant and application assistant agree that applying to Safe at Home is a wise safety strategy, the application assistant will assist with the application packet. The application assistant will also perform personalized safety planning unique to the applicant’s needs.

Bring a Photo ID
It is recommended that every adult applicant bring photo identification to the meeting with the Safe at Home Application Assistant.

Bring Guardianship Documentation (when necessary)
If a guardian is applying on behalf of an eligible ward, copies of documentation demonstrating legal guardianship must be submitted along with the Safe at Home Application. If the legal ward is an incapacitated adult, the ward is not required to be present in the meeting with the Safe at Home Application Assistant. The legal guardian must attend the meeting and can speak on behalf of the ward.
